From .. : .: :. .. : to Small Print

Yesterday I told you how I ended up learning Braille to help deal with some vision problems.

I didn't just learn the Braille alphabet, though... I also took on contracted Braille, which includes another 146 symbols that abbreviate common letter combinations and words.

Now, I think Braille is a wonderful invention for those who have almost no sight -- just like a wheelchair is good for someone who is paralyzed. But if you put someone who can walk "okay" into a wheelchair, they'll quickly lose what motor abilities they have.

Likewise, if you tell a copywriter that he's not ready to promote himself, he'll get too comfortable sticking to his current J.O.B. As Gary Halbert said somewhere, a normal J.O.B. could kill you -- work you to death.

The goal is to make six-figures as a copywriter working 30 or less hours a week.

Back to my vision quest...

One day, back when I lived in Toronto, I had an audio book to pick up at the library. It was being held on the reservation shelf. I went over and looked across the spines for my name.

Coincidentally, there was another person named "MANLEY" who had a book on hold.

I shouldn't have looked, but I did. I pulled the book out. The title shocked me...

Relearning to See: Improve Your Eyesight - Naturally! by Thomas R. Quackenbush

I immediately started flipping through the pages.

Ended up spending an hour reading it. The book was a Godsend -- telling me everything I had suspected in the back of my mind: Large print, audio, Braille and even glasses were all hindering me from healing my eyes.

Delving into the subject, I discovered the Bates Methods. Started practicing them for one-hour each day. Slowly my eyesight got stronger. The headaches disappeared.

There was a definite science to making this situation better. I was soon on a hearty diet of regular print, and 14-pt font size for the computer.

I still keep up the exercises, for a few minutes each day. I plan to reduce my work hours in the near future, and go back on a more intensive program.

My point for you, is that writing copy is not something you are ever going to be "ready" for. Learn the basics, apply them with real-life projects, and you'll make it.

If you want to.

And if you don't know if you want to or not, then give it a try anyways...

At least that way you'll know -- and in the process make some nice money.

I just turned down a job for $1,970 (to write a 6-page letter) because I felt the price was too low.

To get started, grab a copy of Brain Keith Voiles, Ad Magic…

p.s. If you'd like to know more about the Bates exercises, here's an article I wrote two years ago, "How To Reduce Computer Eye Strain And Improve Your Vision"...
